Which compounds are involved?

Even in low concentrations, certain compounds cause major problems:

• Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S): corrosive, it attacks metals and shortens equipment lifespan. It is highly toxic to humans and contributes to acid rain.
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): biogas contains a wide variety of VOCs, among the most challenging being siloxanes (SiVOCs). These silicon compounds cause solid deposits during combustion, damaging energy recovery equipment.
